The Georgian Grizzlies Men's Basketball team survived a late scare on Saturday afternoon, fending off a fourth quarter push from the Centennial Colts in a 84-81 win.
Up twenty headed to the final frame, an onslaught of three's and midrange jumpers gave Centennial a one point lead with just over a minute remaining. Point guard Justin Mitchell, who has been on a tear of late, stemmed the tide with a great finish at the rim. Georgian would hold on and earn a crucial victory in their playoff push.
Mitchell finished his afternoon with a team-leading 21 points, five rebounds and two steals. Along with back-court mate Connor Laronde, who had thirteen points and four rebounds of his own, the two provided the Grizzlies with heady guard play.
All-Canadian Teq Zwarych threw down a trio of massive dunks on the break and had yet another double-double. The 6'4" Whitby native finished with sixteen points and sixteen boards.
With the win, Georgian leaps past Seneca for fifth place in the Eastern Division. A pair of wins to wrap up the season would guarantee the Grizzlies a spot in the OCAA crossover game.
Georgian next plays against Canadore, when they will host the Panthers in their home finale on Sunday, February 21. Opening tip is set for 1pm.
