Bruins Edge Knights in Five Sets

Bruins Edge Knights in Five Sets

February 24, 2022 - The Niagara Knights men's volleyball team fell to 2-3 on the season with a tough 2-3 (28-30,25-23,25-20,16-25, 9-15) loss to the Sheridan Bruins Wednesday night in Oakville.

Both Sheridan and Niagara were looking for a win to improve their record in this shortened 2022 season where every game is crucial. The Knights were fresh off a 3-1 downing of Conestoga College Sunday, while the Bruins were defeated by the Redeemer Royals 3-1 in their last match.

Both teams came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set taking turns taking the lead with Sheridan eventually taking the 28-30 win to go up 1-0. The Knights clawed back to take set two 25-23 and set three 25-20 -another couple close sets- to force a fourth set. Sheridan made quick work of the Knights, taking the 16-25 win and forcing a fifth and deciding set. Sheridan would go on to take the 3-1 win with a 9-15 victory.

Second year St. Thomas University transfer, Dallas Melnick, led the Knights with 16 kills, while second year left side, Colin Prelaz followed up with 12 of his own.

Next up for the Knights will be their eastern swing road trip, where they will meet Fanshawe College (4-2) Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm, and St. Clair (1-4) Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
