January 16, 2023...WELLAND - The Niagara Knights men's basketball team returned to the court on Saturday hoping to open the second semester with a win against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Unfortunately for the Knights, the 9-1 Mountaineers had plans to keep their win streak going edging out the Knights 97-85.

Niagara trailed by five heading into the second quarter where they managed to outscore Mohawk 23-19 and end the half down one at 43-42.

Some sharp shooting in the second half by Mohawk saw the Mountaineers pull away from Niagara and eventually go on to cruise to a 97-85 win.

Niagara shot 47.4 from the field while going 6-22 from the three point arc. Mohawk shot 16-32 from the arc, while picking up 21 points off Niagara turnovers.

Veteran Delroy Grandison led the blue and white with 23 points and 6 rebounds.

Both of Mohawk's starting guards Daniel Graham and Rommel Calura each hit five threes and combined for 51 points in the win. Calura led the Mountaineers with a game-high 26, while Graham scored 18 of his 25 in the second half.

The Knights, now 5-5, will look to bring their losing skid to an end on Wednesday, when they tip-off at home against the Redeemer Royals at 6:00pm (3-8).
