Men Fall 3-0 to Mohawk; Bounce Back for 3-1 Win Over Conestoga

February 21, 2022 - The Niagara Knights mens volleyball team went 1-1 over the weekend with a 3-0 loss to the nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers Thursday night before bouncing back to down Conestoga 3-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Knights had an ugly start to their match against the Mountaineers Friday night losing the first set 10-25 to the powerful Mountaineers. In a seamingly better second set, the blue and white were able to rally to a much closer match despite dropping the set 20-25. The Mountaineers finished off the Knights with a 21-25 win to complete the sweep with a 3-0 win and move to 3-1 while the Knights fell to 1-2.

Niagara traveled to Kitchener for a Sunday afternoon match-up with Conestoga looking to bounce back into the win column after a two game losing streak.

Both the Knights and Condors looked strong in the first set trading point for point, but it was the Knights who came out on top with a 26-24 win.

Up 1-0, the Knights took set two 25-20 to go up 2-0 and had the chance to complete the sweep of the Condors in set three. Conestoga didn't go down without a fight, rallying to take a 22-25 win over Niagara and force a fourth set. Eager to secure the victory, the Knights quickly played to a 25-14 set win to grab their second win of the season 3-1 over Conestoga.

The Knights will spend their next three games on the road starting with Sheridan (2-2) on Wednesday before completing their eastern road swing at Fanshawe (3-2) and St. Clair (0-4) Saturday and Sunday.

Niagara now sits at 2-2 for the 2021-2022 season.
