Women's basketball close first half with split against St. Clair, Lambton

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (2-12, 2-7 OCAA) ended the first half of their season on a high note, defeating Lambton 57-49 in their final contest of the first semester, less than 24 hours after dropping a 72-54 decision to St. Clair.

Against St. Clair, the Double-Blue led 13-11 after one, but saw the visitors go on a 20-4 run to close the half and trailed 37-24 at the break.

In the second half they were never able to get any closer than that 13-point margin.

Samantha Lovat led Sheridan with 17 points.

After trailing 18-17 after the first quarter against Lambton, the Lady Bruins slowed worked their way towards a 31-27 halftime edge.

They then opened the third quarter on a 13-0 run to push their advantage as high as 16, before Lambton responded with an 11-0 run of their own to narrow the gap.

That would be as close as the visitors would get though, as the Double-Blue were able to thwart any rallies from there.

Liana Rose Villegas scored a game-high 19, while Theresa Brown also hit double figures with 15.

The club has a little more than three weeks off, before travelling to Buffalo for a pair of games against Genesee and Villa Maria just prior to Christmas.
