BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (0-5, 0-1 OCAA) got off to a slow start in their OCAA West opener against Niagara, suffering a 77-47 defeat. 

"I think we had spurts where we did things well, but we got tattooed on the glass and our shots weren't falling in the first half -- it's like there was a lid on that hoop," assistant coach Sean Douglas said. "We weren't cheating to their shooters and that blew their lead wide open and we couldn't recover." 

After trailing 9-6 midway through the opening frame, the Lady Bruins saw Niagara close the quarter on a 10-2 run on the way to a 42-17 halftime deficit. 

Niagara limited the Double-Blue to 20 per cent shooting from the floor in the opening half, while connecting on 41.5 per cent of their attempts. 

Samantha Lovat led Sheridan with 16 points and 14 boards, while Liana Rose Villegas was also in double figures with 14.

The club has a quick turnaround, hosting Redeemer on October 25.
