MEN’S BASKETBALL PULL OUT BIG ROAD WIN OVER KNIGHTS
Tyler Vanessen had a season high 32 points along with 17 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies to a big 72-70 victory over Fleming
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team had a quick road trip to take on the Fleming Knights on Saturday afternoon in Peterborough.
After a tough start that saw the Grizzlies down by as many as 11 points early in the second quarter, Georgian responded.
The Grizzlies outscored the Knights 29-10 in the second quarter alone to take control back by halftime.
The second half was tight all the way through but it was the Grizzlies who held on for a big 72-70 road victory.
Georgian was led by Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) who had a monster game, scoring a season high 32 points while also adding 17 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Sean Dutton (Orillia) made his second start of the season and took full advantage by scoring a season high 22 points in the win.
Georgian have now won two straight games and have a 4-3 record on the season to sit in fifth place in the OCAA east division standings.
The Grizzlies will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Ottawa for a pair of road games.
First they will take on the Algonquin Thunder (4-2) on Friday before a Saturday afternoon matchup against the La Cite Coyotes (0-6).
The Grizzlies will play their final home game of the first half of the season on Friday, Nov. 30 when they host the St. Lawrence Vikings (1-5) at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The double-header starts with the women's game at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. Tickets for both games are available at the door for $5.
