Knights Women 2-0 After Opening Weekend

February 14, 2022... Welland - The Niagara College women's basketball team cruised to two big wins in their opening games of the 2022 OCAA season.

Friday night saw the Knights travel to Conestoga College to open their season on the road after a nearly two year pause on varsity action.

The blue and white came out strong outscoring the Condors 17-9 in the first quarter, setting the tone for what was to come the rest of the game. After a big fourth quarter that saw the Knights outscore the Condors 24-8, Niagara went on to record their first win of 2022 with a 69-44 thumping of Conestoga.

First year forward Janee Harrison led the charge with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Jamira Rousseau chipped in with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Second year Fenwick native Terin Hultink pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Knights continued thier winning ways Sunday against the Sheridan Bruins, knotching a big 89-51 win to move to 2-0 this season. Rousseau led the way with 14 points, followed by Harrison with 12. Hultink, Jessican Bosma and Mia Wang each chipped in 8 points.

Head coach Christopher Rao was happy with his teams start-even more happy to be back on the court.

"It was great to be back competing as a group again after the most recent shutdown," said Rao. "Our team played with tremendous effort over both games this past weekend. As a coach there were lots of positives to pull from and build off of. We are looking forward to getting back home and playing at Niagara College against Fanshawe next Friday"

The Knights will finally return home Friday February 18th to tip off against the Fanshawe Falcons (1-0) at 6:00 p.m.
