GRIZZLIES COME UP WITH PIVOTAL WIN OVER LANCERS
Connor Laronde had a team high 24 points to lead the Grizzlies to a big 77-73 victory over the Lancers on Saturday.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team hosted the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
It was a pivotal game for the Grizzlies men's team as they battle for playoff position.
Facing the team directly challenging from behind in the standings, the Grizzlies battled hard and were able to close out a huge 77-73 victory over the Lancers.
Connor Laronde (Barrie) led the charge again for Georgian, leading the team with 24 points. The third year guard is averaging 19.4 points-per-game through 17 games this season putting him 8th overall in the OCAA.
Laronde currently sits fifth all-time in scoring for Georgian with 798 points in his collegiate career.
Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) was also strong for the Grizzlies with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds while Nana Ntim (Bradford) was a standout off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The win moves the Grizzlies to 10-7 on the season and they sit in fifth place in the OCAA east division standings, two-back of fourth place Centennial (12-6) and one up on fifth place St. Lawrence (9-9).
The Grizzlies will continue their busy schedule as they close in on the tail-end of their regular season as they travel to face the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in Toronto.
Georgian will play their final home game next Saturday, Feb. 17 when they host the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings. The women's game tips off at 3 p.m. with tickets for the game available at the doors for $5.
Prior to the game there will be a special pre-game ceremony recognizing this year's graduating student-athletes.
