OAKVILLE, Ont. (By Kevin John Sacdalan) -- The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (9-3, 3-0 OCAA) hosted the Fanshawe Falcons in their first OCAA home game of the season, defeating them in four sets.

The Bruins found themselves up following two sets, taking the first set 25-17, and the second set 25-20. However, the Falcons would strike back early in the third set, getting out to a 9-1 lead, forcing Bruins' head coach Scott Hunt to call a timeout.

"In that stretch to start the third set, Fanshawe went on a big serving run," Hunt said. "They were serving us tough and we had difficulty receiving serve with control. They picked up their execution and were able to stay aggressive down 0-2."

Despite being in a hole early in the third set, the Bruins began to mount a comeback with a run of their own. Outside hitter Manuela Alvarez Gonzalez checked into the match around the midway point of the set, helping the Bruins claw back with four consecutive aces.

"Mani did a great job coming into the match in the third said," Hunt said. "She made an immediate impact with a big serving run midway through the set. She was also able to help stabilize our serve receive."

The Falcons were able to withstand the run and take the third set, 25-20.

"Even though we lost the set, we were able to go on a few big runs near the end of the set, which got us back into the set with a chance to win it," Hunt said. "Getting the momentum back on our side was important heading into the fourth set as we felt confident we could win it."

After dropping the third set, the Lady Bruins regrouped, taking the fourth set 25-20, and the match 3-1.

The Bruins remain undefeated in OCAA play, moving up to 3-0 for the season. Their next match will be at home against the Redeemer Royals.
