Panthers Drop Season Openers

Ancaster, ON - Canadore Panthers men's basketball began their 2022 season (0-2) on the road with two away games down south against the Mohawk Mountaineers, and the Niagara Knights.

After being down in the first quarter, the Panthers put up a hard fight against the Mountaineers in the second quarter, but the offence of Mohawk was to much for the Panthers to handle. Mohawk went on to win the match up 125-75.

Canadore went 48.5% from the field, with 30 rebounds, 11 assists, with 34 points in the paint. Moses Orange (Scarborough, ON) led Canadore with 21 points in 29 minutes. Fourth year forward Zach Martyn (North Bay, ON) finished with a team high 8 rebounds with 35 minutes played. As well, fourth year guard Onguene Betchi (Sainte-Foy, QC) finished with a team high 5 assists in 29 minutes played.

The Panthers suffered another loss over the weekend dropping their second game of the 2022 season to Niagara Knights 80-56. Throughout the match both teams kept everything pretty even but Niagara held Canadore 10 points in the fourth to secure the win.

Canadore went 34.4 % from the field, with 33 rebounds, 9 assists, with 20 points in the paint. Both Tevin McCallum (Edmonton, AB) and Zach Martyn (North Bay, ON) led the Panthers with 12 points each. Zach Martyn (North Bay, ON) also grabbed a team high 9 rebounds with 35 minutes played. Guard Moses Orange (Scarborough, ON) added a team high 3 assists in 33 minutes played.

Next for the Panthers will be at home to take on the defending National Champions Humber Hawks Oct. 29. Tip off is slated for 3 p.m. and will streamed live on OCAA LIVE.
