Panthers Claw Past the Coyotes to Earn a Season Opener Win

North Bay, ON – The Canadore Panthers women's volleyball team (1-0, 1st East) opened their 2022-23 season with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 26-24) set win over La Cite Coyotes. After being down the first set, the Panthers claw back to win three straight sets and went on to defeat the Coyotes.

Opening night saw Canadore College Drive Gym packed as the Panthers set to begin their 2022-23 season in front of excited home crowed. After finishing the previous season 4th overall in the OCAA, the Panthers leaded by 4th year captain Sarah Grassie (Sturgeon Falls, ON) were determined to go to battle with the La Cite Coyotes.

Set one saw a back-and-forth battle between the two squads, as each sided tried to get the upper hand to start the match. It was La Cite who took the upper hand with a 25-20 first set win.

The second and third set saw the Panthers leaded by 2nd year Carlie Pappano (North Bay, ON) claw their way back (25-21, 25-21) to take a 2-1 sets lead over the Coyotes.

With the fourth set underway, we a saw a very even match up as the Coyotes tried to force a fifth and final set. With Carlie Pappano (North Bay, ON) leading the way, the Panthers closed out the fourth set (26-24) to take the match.

Carlie Pappano (North Bay, ON) was a force offensively finishing the match with a total of 20 kills, 13 digs, 1 block and 21 points.

Next for the Panthers will be at home to take on Loyalist Lancers on Oct. 30. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on OCAA LIVE.
