No. 14-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball took the No. 2-ranked Humber Hawks to five sets, but lost the match 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 7-15).

Mountaineers head coach Brad McClure was proud of how his team played in their home opener.

"It was a good battle. I thought we did a lot of things we've been training for really well," McClure said. "It's nice to be able to take some sets off the defending CCAA silver medalists and OCAA champions. We showed that we can play with them."

Both Brayden Griffith (Winnipeg, MB) and Nathan Snippe (St. Ann's, ON) led the way for Mohawk, both having 10 kills in five sets.

"Griffith was a rock today. He found his arm and was able to put some tough balls away," McClure said. "There's a number of guys who had good performances but I think his was the best."

Ahead of their next match the Mountaineers will be focused on rest and recovery.
"We're going to take these days off and prepare for the battle that's coming next," McClure said.

Mohawk will next play on Feb. 23 on the road versus the Redeemer Royals at 8 p.m.
