Double-doubles from both Celina Chung and Tianna Stys powered the Mountaineers women's basketball team to a 56-45 win over the Fanshawe Falcons.

For the first time this season Mohawk has a record above .500 at 3-2.

Chung (Oakville, ON) led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The first-year forward has recorded double digit rebounds in four of five games this season.

Stys (St. Catharines, ON) added 16 points, a career-high 17 rebounds and three blocks.

Mountaineers head coach Hali Burns said the team feeds off of Celina Chung's play.

"[Chung] brings energy to the team," Burns said. "Crashing the boards and rebounding and she makes key plays by getting to the rim offensively."

Mohawk was able to outscore Fanshawe in each of the first three quarters. Their biggest push came in the second quarter when they shot over 44 per cent from the floor for 22 points and held the Falcons to just 13.

The Mountaineers were able to score 19 points off of 14 Falcons turnovers.

Another strong defensive performance by Mohawk kept Fanshawe's shooting percentage under 26 per cent.

The Mountaineers will play their next game on Mar. 2 when they host the Conestoga Condors at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre at 6 p.m.
