Women's Volleyball Win Two in Sudbury

Sudbury, ON- The St. Clair women's volleyball team continued their OCAA regular season schedule on the road this weekend and came away with two big wins.

On Saturday, the Saints were in Sudbury to take on the College Boreal Vipers and earned a convincing 3-0 victory. With the loss Boreal fell to 0-4 on the season. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-20. Rookie middle Krista Nichol (Hamilton; Westmount) led the way offensively with 7 kills, 4 service aces, and 3 stuff blocks. Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming; LCCVI) had a solid match as well with 10 kills and 2 digs.

The women were also in Sudbury on Sunday afternoon to take on the Cambrian College Golden Shield and posted a solid 3-0 win. It was the first loss of the season for the Golden Shield who dropped to 3-1. Set scores for St. Clair were 25-20, 25-14 and 25-19. DeVlugt led the way for the Saints with 11 kills, 1 service ace and 5 digs. Ashley Maleyko (LaSalle; Villanova) had a big game as well with 4 kills, 5 service aces and 2 stuff blocks. Alexis Stewart (Windsor; St. Joseph's) had a solid defensive match with 9 digs and passing the ball well throughout the match.

With the two wins on the weekend St. Clair's record now sits at 3-2. The Saints are now tied for second in the tough OCAA West Division and are currently ranked 3rd in Ontario and 11th in Canada. Cambrian was ranked 5th in Ontario heading into weekend play.

The Saints are next in action at home at the Sportsplex on Saturday, February 26 at 1 pm against the Redeemer Royals in the first of three straight home matches.
