The St. Clair College men's soccer team started their OCAA regular season on Sunday afternoon with a solid 4-1 over the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville) at Acumen Stadium
The Saints had some great chances throughout the first half outshooting the Bruins 12-4 including a cross bar midway through the half. However it took until the 46th minute for St. Clair to break the ice on a nice goal by Riley Drkulec (Lakeshore; St. Anne's) assisted by Michael Zivcic (Windsor, St. Joseph's).
The Saints continued their good play in the second half with 13 shots on goal compared to 6 for Sheridan. However, the score remained 1-0 until the 74th minute when Moussa Nizam (Windsor; Kennedy) scored on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. Nizam made it 3-0 in the 81st minute after a costly turnover by the Bruins in their own zone. Sheridan made it 3-1 on the 82nd minute with a goal off a free kick as St. Clair keeper Ned Malic (Windsor, Sandwich) was taken down on a collision in a battle for the ball. The Saints sealed the game in the 90th minute on a strike by Mateo Grahovac (Windsor; Riverside) assisted by Nizam.
Malic had a solid game in goal making a couple key saves when the Saints were up 1-0.
St. Clair is next in action on Saturday, September 16th when they travel to London to take on rival Fanshawe College at 2 pm.
