Men’s Basketball Stunned at Home

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team was stunned at the SportsPlex Friday night dropping a 122-115 double overtime thriller to Mohawk College (Hamilton).  The Saints are now 2-3 in the OCAA's West Division.

St. Clair looked good early opening a 29-25 lead over the visitors after the opening frame and eased into halftime with a comfortable 55-46 advantage.  But defense was not the order of the day and even though the Saints pushed ahead 75-50 halfway through the third quarter Mohawk was not to be undone.  St. Clair allowed the visitors to inch within 75-64 entering the fourth quarter and that is where it got interesting.  Mohawk shot 65% from the floor in the fourth including 43% from deep and managed to tie and move ahead 97-95 with just 28 seconds left in regulation.  David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) answered for the Saints scoring a tough basket with 24 seconds left and when Mohawk could not convert after a timeout the game entered overtime.  St. Clair seemed to have control late in the first overtime taking a 110-107 lead after a pair of free throws by Ali Mansour (Windsor, ON/Kennedy Collegiate).  But Emanuel Otong (Cambridge, ON) nailed a long triple with 4 seconds left to force another overtime period.  Mohawk outscored the Saints 12-5 in the final frame on their way to the win.

Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) led St. Clair with 32 points to go with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.  Gomez Jr. finished with 31 points adding 8 assists.  Ian Smart (Chatham, ON) had another strong game with a double-double scoring 21 points and recording 11 rebounds.  Daelyn Davis (Romulus, MI) chipped in with 10 points for the Saints.

Otong scored a game high 34 points for Mohawk in the win.

The St. Clair Men's Basketball team continue their regular season schedule Saturday when they host Niagara College (Welland) at 3:00pm.
