Men’s Basketball Top Fanshawe Moving to 4-0
London, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team (4-0) kept the streak alive with an 82-79 squeaker win over Fanshawe College (1-2) in London Wednesday night. The Saints are currently ranked #2 in Ontario and with the win remain atop the West Division standings.
Fanshawe took a modest 18-16 lead after the first quarter but St. Clair outscored the home team 22-13 in the second for a 38-31 advantage at the break. The Saints grew that lead to as much as 14 points in the third quarter but Fanshawe responded and only trailed 63-58 heading to the final 10 minutes. It was nip and tuck from that point forward with Fanshawe retaking the lead on two occasions and for the final time at 75-73 with 3:25 remaining. But the see saw contest that had 13 lead changes and the teams tied on 8 occasions did not disappoint. St. Clair used a 9-4 run to close out the game which included a David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) layup with 7 seconds remaining to complete the scoring. The Saints then forced a desperation triple as time expired to preserve the win.
Gomez finished with 23 points to lead the Saints in scoring and added 3 assists. Glynn Willis-Paris (Detroit, MI/Kennedy Collegiate) made three triples on his way to 15 points to go with 7 rebounds while adding a pair of blocked shots. Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) also reached double figures with 14 points and cleared 7 boards along with 4 assists.
The St. Clair Men's Basketball team continue their regular season schedule when they travel to Lambton College (Sarnia) on Tuesday.
