Baseball Splits with Seneca Including 1st No-Hitter Win Ever

Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team split with Seneca College (North York) Saturday afternoon at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh and began the day with the program's first ever no-hitter.  In the opening game Saints starter Luis Barrios (Cali, Columbia) pitched 5 strong innings and allowed no batter to reach base via a hit while striking out 8 batters to go with a pair of walks in the 10-0 mercy shortened win.  In the second game of the doubleheader the Saints (8-5) fell 4-3 to Seneca (8-5).

In the opening game St. Clair scored singles in the 1st and 3rd innings before a 6-run 4th put the game out of reach.  St. Clair added 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th and secured the no-hitter.  Saints third baseman Ryley Vernon (Lasalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had 3 hits including a homerun to go with 3 RBI's to lead his team offensively in the game.  Michael McKay (Miramichi, NB) and Kameron Wall (Leamington, ON/Leamington District) each also had 2 hits and an RBI for St. Clair.

In the second game Wall and Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) each had a pair of hits while Emilio Valdes (Miami, FL) took the loss on the mound for the Saints who went unrewarded surrendering only 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks to go with 8 strikeouts in 5 innings of work.  Seneca scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning before St. Clair answered with a single in the 5th.  The Saints gave up a run in the 6th but had a chance to tie the game late after 2 runs in the 7th.

The St. Clair Baseball team goes on the road Wednesday for an exhibition doubleheader at Macomb CC (Warren, MI) before completing their home OCAA schedule Friday night against Fanshawe College (London) at Lacasse Park.
