Good Weekend for Women's Soccer

Good Weekend for Women's Soccer

The St. Clair College women's soccer team had a very good weekend as they hosted two matches at Acumen Stadium in front of some great crowds.

On Saturday afternoon, the Saints took on the Niagara Knights and came away with a solid 3-0 win.

St. Clair took the lead on a nice goal by Victoria Walsh (Georgetown; Christ the King) assisted by Alessia Olivito (Windsor; Holy Names) in the 21st minute. The Saints went up 2-0 in the 42nd minute on a free kick from in close by Alexa Mognon (LaSalle; Assumption). St. Clair wrapped up the scoring in the 53rd minute on an unassisted tally by Walsh as she scored her 5th goal of the season. Scotlyn Fick (Belle River; Belle River District) was solid in goal turning aside all 8 shots she faced.

Niagara's record is now 2 wins, 3 losses and a tie on the season.

On Sunday afternoon, the Saints hosted perennial powerhouse and defending OCAA Champions Humber College and earned a hard fought 0-0 draw.

Humber controlled the play for the most of the first half but Saints keeper Fick was great stopping all 7 shots she faced including a penalty kick as Humber has 16 shot attempts at goal. St. Clair had a better second half including a couple of great chances but neither team could find the back of the net as the play was much more even with Humber having 4 shot attempts and the Saints 3. Midfielder Brianna Kinsley-Clough (Georgetown; Christ the King) had a solid all around match for the Saints.

Humber remains unbeaten on the season with a record of 4 wins and 3 ties. The Hawks are ranked 5th in Ontario.

St. Clair is currently ranked 8th in the OCAA with a record of 3 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties.
