Lions Toppled by Saints in Memorial Game

SARNIA, ON - With a packed house in the Lambton gym on Friday night, the Lady Lions welcomed in the high-powered St. Clair Saints and fell 86-53. The game was taking on a greater purpose, as Lambton Colleges mental health organization "Let's Face It" was on site to raise funds for mental health while paying tribute to a local student lost to this terrible disease.

On the hardwood, the Saints stormed out of the gates, going on a 16-6 run early on in the quarter to pull ahead. The Lions struggled early on to keep up with the tempo of the Saints, but managed to gain their footing towards the end of the 1st. The 2nd quarter showed a much more efficient Lions offense, but they still trailed when the halftime buzzer went off.

The ssecond half was a much more balanced affair from both sides, as Lambton was able to slow down the Saints attack while improving their own. Ultimately it was a tale of too little to late as the Saints closed it out for the 86-53 victory. Madisyn Campbell's strong second half saw her finish with 22 points while Christine Fleischer notched the double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Morgan Campbell knocked down 7 while Maddi Basso had 5. Lauren Van Leerzem rounded out the scoring with a single point.

The loss moves the Lions to 4-9 on the season. They will hit the road on Friday to take on the Redeemer Royals in a game that could decide their playoff fate.
