St. Clair Men’s Baseball Suffer First Loss in Durham Split

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team escaped game one of their doubleheader with a 7-6 win but suffered their first loss of the season in game two by a score of 17-10 and settled for a split against Durham College (Oshawa) Saturday afternoon at Mic Mac Park's Cullen Stadium field.  The Saints are now 6-1 but also gave Durham (7-1) their first loss of the year.

In game one St. Clair spotted Durham a run in the first inning but quickly took control with three runs in the bottom half.  The Lords tied it up after scoring a single run in the third and fifth inning, but the Saints forged back ahead 4-3 heading to the sixth.  The teams played even from that point with each scoring two runs in the sixth before Durham tied it 6-6 in seventh.  Carter Reh (Harrow, ON/Kingsville) doubled off the fence in left and worked his way to third base before a wild pitch brought him home for the St. Clair walk-off win.

Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) had two singles and an RBI for the Saints while Brock Whitson (Chatham, ON) came on in relief allowing only an unearned run in two innings of work for the pitching win.  St. Clair survived an uncharacteristic six fielding errors in the victory and Durham added to the choppy play with three of their own.

St. Clair could not shake the sloppy play in game two with seven more errors in the contest but fought hard to avoid a mercy shortened result.  Durham led 5-1 after two innings and an 8-run third threatened to shorten the game in favour of the visitors.  The Saints answered with a run in the bottom half and scored five more in the fifth shrinking the deficit to 13-7.  Durham was able to tack on four more runs down the stretch while St. Clair could only muster three in the final two innings.

Mitch McCosh (Belle River, ON/Belle River) was a bright spot for the Saints who was 4-for-4 including two triples and a solo homerun that allowed him to contribute four RBI.  Fellow rookie Jack Lewis (Windsor, ON/St. Anne) had a triple to go with a pair of walks and three RBI while Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) chipped in with two singles which allowed him to score twice.

The Saints finish the homestand on Sunday with a doubleheader starting 12pm against Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie).
