Two Wins for Fanshawe’s Softball

(London, ON) On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Women's Softball team (5-11) was victorious in consecutive games against the Lambton Lions (3-11). The Falcons won game one 4-1 and won game two 3-1.

A run by Paige Askew (London, ON) started the Falcons off during the bottom of the first. The visitors would match the Birds, scoring a run in the second to tie the game at 1-1. A beautiful triple hit from first-year Sydnee Reidy (London, ON) gave the Falcons a chance to take the lead in the second inning, but they were unable to convert. In the third, the Falcons found their groove, displaying stellar hitting. A Marandee Hunter (Chatham, ON) single, a Jada Doxtator (Southwold, ON) double, a single hit by Kailyn Cook (Ingersoll, ON), and a double from in-fielder Leah Yantzi (Shakespeare, ON) gave the Birds three runs. Nine strikeouts pitched by Fanshawe's Doxtator would leave the Lions scoreless in the remaining innings. The Falcons played as a cohesive unit to take game one 4-1.

Lambton was the first team to get on the board in game two, crossing the home plate in the second inning. The Birds answered in the third as Cook slammed a double, scoring Emily Jamieson (London, ON) who hit a single earlier in the inning. During the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons secured their second win of the day. Three hits by Fanshawe would equate to two runs. Game two went on to end in a 3-1 final in favour of the Falcons.

The Falcons hope to win two upcoming games against the Conestoga Condors (3-13). On October 1, the Birds will host the visitors at the Fanshawe Alumni Field for a hard-fought doubleheader.
