VAUGHAN - No. 4 Humber women's soccer (7-0-2, 1st West) batteled in a back and forth draw against the Niagara Knights (5-3-1, 4th West) in the final home game of the regular season Wednesday night. The draw left them a record with a 7-0-2 record and still without a loss. With grad night in the air, the game was filled with offensive pressure aggressiveness from both sides. Catarina Medeiros lead the way with scoring both goals of the game.

Match Highlights

The night lights shone down on the pitch at the Ontario Soccer Centre for the final time in the regular season but the spotlight was the teams' graduates. Before the game Remi Pelletier, Emma Stushnoff and Emma Czeruszka were celebrated as the class of 2022 Graduating Student-Athletes.

The opening ceremony seemed to motivate the team with the Hawks firing four shot attempts in the first ten minutes of the match. The pressure would prove to be successful after getting one on the board. In the 17th minute Emma Czeruszka was able to find Catarina Medeiros outside of the box who fired a perfectly placed strike over the head of Niagara' netminder Sierra Naccarato and into the net to make it a 1-0 lead.

After Medeiros' tally Humber took their foot of the gas pedal and allowed the Knights to gain momentum and respond with a goal for themselves. In the 32nd minute Niagara's Sydney Sica was able to pot one in passed Isabella Bernardi to tie the game at one a piece going into the second half. It was the first tally in open play Bernadi has allowed this season.

After the break both teams displayed their scrappiness getting two fouls for each and yellow card for the Knights but that didn't seem to faze the Hawks continuing to apply pressure. Once again, the pressure was to much for Knight's as they would concede another goal for Medeiros. Similar to the first goal outside of box Medeiros would have her eye on goal and with a forceful strike find the back of the net to make it a one goal lead.

The scrappiness continued in the 84th minute after a yellow card on Humber's Emma Genova, the Knights would capitalize on the penalty kick to tie the game at two.

The Hawks finished with 12 shot attempts - seven in the first half and five in the second.
