Falcons Baseball Fall to the Hawks in Doubleheader

(London, Ontario) – The Falcons dropped two games against the Humber Hawks on Sunday, September 10, at Norm Aldridge Field. Game one finished with a score of 6-4 and 8-4 in the second.

 

At the top of the first, the Hawks were the earliest to get on the board. Humber's Hudson Lockwood (Burlington, ON) ran home to put the visitors up 1-0. The Hawks added three runs to their total after the second. On the other end, Falcons Eric Martyn (Acton, ON) hit an outstanding triple, but the Birds could not convert. During the bottom of the fourth, William Baltrusiunas (Fonthill, ON) hit an RBI to score teammate Marcus Normandin (Mississauga, ON). At the end of the fifth, the Hawks led 6-1.

 

The Falcons displayed resilience and fought back in the sixth inning. On the defensive side, Fanshawe completed a double play, and third baseman Riley Wheeler (Shelburne, ON) made a brilliant throw to keep the Hawks scoreless in back-to-back innings. The Birds went on a roll during the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs. Normandin started the Falcons off with a hit, followed by an RBI from Baltrusiunas, and two RBI's from Luke Sherwin (Brampton, ON). The Falcons pulled off a superb double play in the seventh to keep the visitors runless, but Humber survived Fanshawe's comeback, winning 6-4.

 

Humber began the second game by scoring three runs. At the bottom of the third, Martyn made a hit and stole second base. Later in the inning, Wheeler struck a double, giving the Birds their first point of the game. Then the visitors made a run, resulting in an 8-1 score after the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Fanshawe's Jordan Spring (London, ON) slammed a ball out of the park, adding two points to Fanshawe's score. Game two ended with a score of 8-4 for the Hawks. Fanshawe rookie, Riley Wheeler had a notable performance as he hit three doubles in the final game of the doubleheader.

 

The Falcons hope to improve their record as they travel to face the Durham Lords at Kinsmen Stadium on Saturday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
