Men's Volleyball Split Final Games of Semester on the Road

 

Welland, ON- The St. Clair men's volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season first semester schedule on the road this weekend and came away with a hard earned split.

 

On Saturday, the Saints were in Hamilton to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers and suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss. With the win Mohawk improved to 5-4 on the season. The Mountaineers are currently ranked 6th in Ontario and it was their 4th win in a row.

 

Set scores for Mohawk were 23-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-23 and 15-10. Outside hitter Frankie Friesen (2nd Year; Staples; Tilbury District) led the way for the Saints with 18 kills, 4 service aces, 1 stuff block and 7 digs. Outside hitter Ryan Acott (3rd Year; Windsor; Kennedy Collegiate) had a big game as well with 7 kills, 1 service ace, 3 stuff blocks and 4 digs.

 

The men were in Welland on Sunday afternoon and came away with a come from behind 3-2 win over the Niagara College Knights. With the loss the Knights record dropped to 6-3 on the season.  The Niagara men are currently ranked 5th in Ontario.

 

Set scores for St. Clair were 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 15-13. 2nd year outside hitter Frankie Friesen (Staples; Tibury District) had another huge game with 22 kills, 4 stuff blocks, 1 service ace and 8 digs. Rookie outside hitter Logan Ondricko (Belle River; St. Anne's) had a great match as well with 8 kills, 1 service ace, 10 stuff blocks and 6 digs. Rookie setter Simran Pahal (Kitchener; Huron Heights) had a solid game with 36 assists, 2 kills and 8 digs.

 

With the split on the weekend St. Clair's record now sits at 4-5 at the halfway point of the regular season heading into the exam and holiday break. The Saints are tied for 6th in the tough OCAA West Division. The Saints are next in regular season action at home at the Sportsplex on Sunday, January 12 at 2 pm against Niagara.
