Women’s Basketball Open Season with Mohawk Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team led wire to wire in a convincing 70-54 victory over Mohawk College (Hamilton) Friday night at the SportsPlex in their OCAA West Division home opener. 

St. Clair was dominant early and led 25-6 after the opening frame taking a comfortable 39-14 advantage into the halftime break.  The Saints maintained that lead at 55-34 after three quarters but Mohawk battled back to within 12 points (66-54) in the late stages before St. Clair closed out the win.  The Saints won the rebounding war 54-32 which proved to be Mohawk's undoing.  

Saints 3rd year guard Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) had 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead her team with 2nd year player Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) scoring 14 points including three triples.  Keirsten Tomkins (Sarnia, ON) had 13 rebounds for St. Clair adding 7 points and 5 assists while 3rd year guard Tanay Freckleton (Windsor, ON/WF Herman) also had 13 rebounds to go with 8 points.  Rookie Meghan Zelina (Wilkesport, ON) chipped in with 10 points for St. Clair. 

Sam Pocrnic (Oakville, ON) had 21 points for Mohawk and led all scorers in a losing cause. 

The St. Clair Women's Basketball team continue their regular season schedule Saturday when they host Niagara College (Welland) at 1:00pm.
