Women’s Basketball Nip Lambton in Sarnia

Sarnia, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (3-1) used a late charge for a narrow 63-60 victory over previously undefeated Lambton College (5-1) in Sarnia Tuesday night.  The Lady Saints had dropped to #3 in the latest OCAA rankings and to #13 Nationally while Lambton had jumped to #5 provincially.

Lambton wasted no time early and scored the game's first nine points, but St. Clair responded and only trailed 21-19 heading to the second quarter.  The Saints continued the momentum and headed into the halftime intermission with a 36-33 lead.  A low scoring third quarter resulted in a 46-46 deadlock entering the final frame where things got even closer.  St. Clair forged ahead 56-51 with 3:16 remaining but Lambton battled back for a 60-59 lead with about 40 seconds to go.  After an offensive rebound St. Clair got a long 2-point jumper by Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) which put her team ahead for good.

St. Clair was outshot from the floor, distance and the free throw line but held a 46-36 advantage on the glass. The Saints also used consistent pressure defense to force 28 Lambton turnovers in the contest.

Twin sisters Logan and Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) both scored a game high 21 points for the Saints in the game and each added 6 and 7 rebounds respectively.  Bazzi finished in double figures also scoring 11 points to go with 7 rebounds.  2nd year guard Keirsten Tomkins (Sarnia, ON) had a nice homecoming with an astounding 18 rebounds for the Saints while scoring 4 points and helped her team even further with 6 assists.

The St. Clair Women's Basketball team get a bit of rest before returning home Nov. 16th and 17th for a pair of games against Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie).
