Drizzle Doesn’t Slow St. Clair College Women's Softball

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team did not let a few sprinkles get in the way of a doubleheader sweep of Fanshawe College (London) Wednesday evening at the SportsPark diamond winning by scores of 11-1 and 15-5.  The Saints (16-0) now hold a streak of 43 consecutive games without a loss against OCAA competition when combined with their 27-0 regular and post-season record from 2022.

St. Clair opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning of game one with a pair of runs but exploded for a 9-run third that put the contest out of reach.  Fanshawe managed a run in the fourth inning, but the Saints closed out the game in the fifth of the mercy shortened affair.  Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich), Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) and Ashley Ventura (Fergus, ON) all homered for the St. Clair in that deciding third inning peppering the parking lot at different moments.  Each also had two hits in the game with Kressler and Baltzer also collecting doubles.  Claydon and Baltzer each drove in three RBI accounting for much of the St. Clair run the production.  Saints' starter Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre) threw three innings and only allowed a hit and walk while striking out three batters.

In game two St. Clair took a 5-0 lead after the first inning, but Fanshawe answered with two runs in the top of the second.  The Saints added three more in bottom half, but a pesky Falcons group notched three more in the third and only trailed 8-5.  St. Clair scored two runs in the bottom of the third and had the bases loaded when heavier rains halted play before resuming after a five-minute delay.

The rally ended quickly after play continued in friendlier conditions which only deferred the inevitable as the Saints scored two runs in the fourth and walked off 2-runs on a Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) double in the fifth that secured the mercy shortened result.  Murphy finished with two doubles and three hits while scoring three times.  Baltzer and Madison Barber (Caledon, ON) had three hits apiece for St. Clair, but all were outdone by Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, ON) who was 3-for-4 with five RBI including a triple and a homerun.   Copley threw two innings of relief to win her 10th decision of the season for the Saints.

St. Clair goes on the road this weekend to face Durham College (Oshawa) on Saturday and finish their GTA swing trip on Sunday at Seneca College (North York).
