ETOBICOKE, ON:  On a sunny, yet extremely windy morning, the Niagara College Knights and Fanshawe Falcons faced off in the first game of the 2015 OCAA Championships.

Playing with the wind in the first half, the Falcons dominated the time of possession, recording their first scoring attempt in the 13th minute.  A Fanshawe free kick was turned away by Knights goalkeeper Jordan Provenzano, off the crossbar and out of play.

With the wind wreaking havoc, both teams had multiple scoring opportunities, however, only Fanshawe was able to record a shot on goal.  In the 36thminute, Falcons forward Alberto Barquin attempted to beat Provenzano low and away, but the Knights goalkeeper made the save once more.

Despite changing sides at half, Fanshawe dominated the time of possession once again.  Their best scoring chance came in the 62nd minute when there seemed to be a communication breakdown between a Knights defender and their keeper.  With Provenzano out of position, Falcons forward Cedric N'Guessen had a clean look at a wide open net.  N'Guessen's shot was blocked by Knights first-year defender Charlie Does, preventing the easy goal.

The spectacular play by Does seemed to shift the momentum in Niagara's favour except Fanshawe's CCAA All-Canadian defender Brandon Mendes continued to spoil any attack the Knights attempted.

With extra time looming, the Falcons continued with a full out attack, putting consistent pressure on the Knights.  During injury time in the 90th minute, Barquin broke through the defence and unleashed a wicked strike on net; however Provenzano got just enough of the ball to make the save and send the game to extra time.

In the 97th minute, N'Guessen was finally able to beat Provenzano, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.  N'Guessen dribbled passed multiple Knights defenders before sneaking the ball passed the outstretched arms of Niagara's goalkeeper.

The late goal by N'Guessen seemed to deflate the energy from the Knights team.  Minutes later, first-year forward Daniel Amaya-Romero got passed the Knights defence and scored, giving the Falcons a 2-0.  For Amaya-Romero, it was his first OCAA goal this year.

Fanshawe showed why they were named the 2015 West Division best defensive team, holding Niagara to only four shots on net.  The Falcons defenders swarmed every attacker Niagara sent, making an easy day for Fanshawes goalkeeper Luke Siroen.  Siroen recorded the clean sheet, Fanshawe's seventh of the year.

Alberto Barquin and Jordan Provenzano were each named players of the game.

The Falcons advance to the next round to play the winner of the Humber/Fleming match.  The Knights move on to the consolation round and will play the loser of that game.
