Women's Soccer Hopes Dashed

vs Conestoga Condors

The Lady Lions hosted the Lady Condors on Thursday night and came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 score. The game began with a quick pace, with both teams moving the ball well. The first scoring opportunities went to Conestoga who put a slew of shots on net only to be turned away. With Lambton missing two key strikes, offense was dificult to come by. Their inability to keep the ball in Conestoga's end came back to hurt the Lady Lions, as at the 10-minute mark a corner kick by the Condors led to a scramble and a goal. After allowing the goal, Lambton found their possession game and dominated the ball, finding great chances but failing to find the back of the net.

The second half gave more life to the Condors who came out in a flurry. They kept the pressure on the Lions defense and rang two balls off the crossbar but couldn't put home the insurance tally. Lambton battled hard all second half and pushed the ball hard at the end of the game, trying to break through the Condor defense. It was to no avail as they shut the door and shutout the Lady Lions 1-0.

vs St. Clair Saints

With their playoff hopes dashed, the Lady Lions were looking to play spoiler against a tought opponent in the St. Clair Saints. Lambton tied the Saints earlier in the year and were hoping for a similar or better result. Lambton came out strong in this one, dominating the early game with great ball movement and excellent scoring chances. The great offensive pressure led to a corner kick goal by Melissa Blair at the 17th minute, handing the Lady Lions the 1-0 lead. The score would hold that way heading into the half as both teams locked it down on defense.

The second half began much like the end of the first half, with both teams trading chances and moving the ball. Just when it looked like Lambton was on their way to their 1st victory of the season, St. Clair found late life and buried the Lions. They tallied 4 goals from the 60th minute til the end of the contest and overwhelmed Lambton, adding another loss to what has been a tough season for the Lady Lions.

Women's Soccer will host the high-powered Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday before visiting Conestoga next week to round out their season. Good luck!
