Women's Soccer Fall Short of Bronze

Vaughan, ON- The St. Clair women's soccer season came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday afternoon in Toronto. The Saints were playing in the OCAA Bronze Medal game at the Championship Tournament.

St. Clair ended up falling to the Durham Lords 3-2 on Penalty Kicks. It was an exciting back and forth match between two good squads.

Durham opened the scoring in the 25th minute but the Saints responded when Abby Redmond (Tecumseh; L'Essor) scored in the 39th minute assisted by Alexa Mognon (LaSalle; Assumption)

The Lords took the lead again in the 61st minute but once again St. Clair bounced back quickly to tie it at 2-2 when Victoria Walsh (Georgetown; Christ the King) scored in the 65th minute assisted by Jessica Doll (LaSalle; Villanova).

Neither team could find the back of the net in 30 minutes of extra time which forced the game to penalty kicks to determine who would bring home the Bronze. After 5 rounds it was tied 4-4 as each team missed one attempt and it went to sudden death kicks where the Lords scored and the Saints missed on the 6th penalty kick.

The future is bright for a very young St. Clair team that featured 16 rookies all born in 2005. The Saints ended the season in 2nd place in the OCAA West with a record of 7 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties and were ranked 15th in Canada. St. Clair had an amazing 9 shutouts total in their 14 regular season and playoff matches.
