An impressive 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 27-25) road victory over the Niagara Knights gave the Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team their 10th win of the season.

With the win, the Mountaineers now have sole possession for the OCAA West fourth seed. However, despite the win, losing the one set to the Knights means Mohawk loses the head-to-head tiebreaker to Niagara as the two teams battle for fourth place and a home playoff game.

The Mountaineers have one remaining match left in the season and the Knights will play two more before knowing who will host an OCAA crossover round match.

The win was Mohawks third consecutive, and head coach Kelsey Kovar credited her team for believing in each other.

"We were really gritty and just worked hard and never gave up," Kovar said. "The girls are working within our system and are trusting each other so I think that is making a difference in our play."

The 2022-23 season for the Mountaineers has been all about streaks. They started the season winning five in a row before losing six straight. Now, they've won five of their last six.

Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) has been playing great as of late, and that continued versus the Knights with a team-high 13 kills and adding seven digs. Irene Jaramillo (Manizales, CO) contributed 11 kills and tied her career-high with eight service aces.

Mohawk will close out the regular season on Feb. 11 when they host the Fanshawe Falcons inside the DBARC at 1 p.m.
