ETOBICOKE - In a rematch of last season's OCAA championship game, Humber dropped its season opener to the St. Clair Saints Saturday afternoon at Connorvale Park, 6-3. Hudson Lockwood and Caleb Eguren led the Hawks at the dish, finishing two-for-three at the dish, each. The second game of the twin bill was postponed due to an umpire injury and will be made up at a later date.

Game One (St. Clair 6, Humber 3)

Rookie Jackson Wark got the nod in game one, throwing the first pitch of Humber's 2023 OCAA season and striking out Ethan Pauloas to begin his collegiate career. After plunking Henry Real with two outs, Wark was able to leave him stranded, striking out Colin Robinson to end the first half of the inning.

The Saints' run game came alive in the second inning, as their aggressive base running allowed the defending champs to plate four in the inning. With the bases loaded and two out, Jayke Wong came in to shut the door, preventing the Saints from scoring any more runs.

Humber responded in the third, when Caleb Eguren scored on a wild pitch. A couple of pitches later, Aidan Murphy nearly missed a three-run home run, settling for a sacrifice fly to plate Hudson Lockwood

After another shutout inning from Wong, Caleb Eguren brought Humber within one, driving home Charlie Towers from second base to make the score 4-3.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, that would be as close as they would, as St. Clair added two more runs in the sixth inning, picking up the win, 6-3.

Tyler Brown-Amlin recorded the win for St. Clair, firing four shutout innings in relief of starter Sam McKinlay.

Game Two (Humber 2, St .Clair 1 – Game Postponed, Top of the Fourth)

OCAA Pitcher of the Year Brandon Deans toed the rubber for the Hawks in game two, picking up two quick strikeouts to begin the game.

After a walk and single in the top of the third inning, the Saints broke the scoreless tie after Owen Findlay crossed home on a passed ball.

The Hawks tied the game in the home half of the inning when David Boatto drove a fastball deep to right field, scoring Eguren from second with a stand-up double. Aidan Murphy gave the Hawks the lead a few pitches later, singling to right field to cash Lockwood from third base.

In the top half of the fourth inning, a foul tip from Henry Real struck the home plate umpire in the mask. Despite the umpires best efforts to stay in the game, league officials decided it was best to postpone the game to a later date.
