Wheeler Breaks Fanshawe Record in a Close Match Against the Saints

(London, ON) – On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons Baseball team (7-8) fell short to St. Clair (13-1) at Norm Aldridge Field. The final score stood at 10-8.

Both teams came straight out of the gate, as St. Clair put up two points after the first, and Fanshawe's Riley Wheeler (Shelburne, ON) smashed his first home run of the game to match the visitor's score. In the second inning, the Saints added an additional run to their total. With bases loaded for the Falcons, Luke Sherwin (Brampton, ON) hit an RBI which scored outfielder Ashton Whalen (Paris, ON). Later in the inning, Wheeler hit another home run to increase the Birds' lead to 3-6.

The Saints took back the lead in the third, scoring five runs, but Fanshawe put up a fight. Wheeler hit a double, which gave him a total of seven RBIs in the game. Wheeler's performance is one for the books as he broke former Falcon, Travis Helps' record for the most RBI's in a game (5) in Fanshawe history, which was recorded in 2014.

With the game tied at 8-8, the Saints went on to secure the victory as they chalked up two runs in the fifth. Due to weather conditions, game two of the doubleheader was incomplete.

The Falcons will travel to Errol Russell Park in Sarnia, ON to face the Lambton Lions (7-7) on Wednesday, October 11.
