Rain Delays St. Clair College Women's Softball Sweep of Humber

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team had to wait four hours in a rain delay before starting a doubleheader with Humber College (Etobicoke) Saturday afternoon but eventually completed a sweep winning by scores of 6-5 (8 INN) and 12-1.  With the wins the Saints (20-2) are in position to secure 2nd place in the standings which includes a bye to the final four of the OCAA Championship being hosted by Humber Oct. 19-21.

Game one on Saturday was a back-and-forth affair as St. Clair fell behind 2-0 in the third inning but took a 3-2 lead after the fifth.  Humber tied it up in the sixth before taking a 5-3 lead in the seventh.  The Saints were down to their last out until Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) singled and then Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) seized the moment with a dramatic homerun to force extra innings.  St. Clair held Humber scoreless in the eighth inning and were again down to their last out but worked the bases loaded which allowed Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, ON) to scamper home on a pass ball.  Baltzer finished with two hits in the contest and drove in four RBI with Murphy also collecting a pair of hits including a double.  Alivia Peterson (Windsor, ON/St. Anne) had a perfect day at the plate for the Saints with four singles in four at-bats.  St. Clair starter Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre, ON) pitched all eight innings for the win spreading out nine hits and three walks but struck out seven Hawks.

The Saints were more dominant in the second game scoring a pair of runs in the first and third innings before allowing an unearned run in the fourth to Humber.  St. Clair responded with a 5-run bottom half and ended the mercy shortened game with three runs in the fifth which included a 2-run walk-off homerun by Baltzer.  She finished the game with two hits and scored four times to go with three RBI.  Kressler homered as part of her two hits and picked up the pitching win surrendering only two hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts.  Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) had two hits as did Madison Barber (Caledon, ON) who slapped a double with Ashley Ventura (Fergus, ON) pounding a triple included in her pair of hits.  Kressler and Baltzer are now tied with six homeruns which leads the OCAA in that category.

St. Clair finishes their weekend homestand on Sunday against Sheridan College (Brampton) with a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.  Before the opening game St. Clair will be recognizing their graduating players with a brief ceremony.
