St. Clair Men’s Baseball Take Home Opener Doubleheader

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball moved their OCAA record to 5-0 after a doubleheader sweep of Centennial College (Scarborough) in their home opener Saturday afternoon at Mic Mac Park's Father Cullen Stadium Field.  The Saints only needed five innings in the first game which ended in a mercy score of 11-1 but capped the doubleheader with an 8-3 verdict. 

The Saints jumped all over the visitors in the opening game with an 8-run first inning that chased the Colts starting pitcher from the mound with only one out recorded.  Centennial could only answer with a run in the fourth inning before St. Clair ended the contest with three runs in bottom of the fifth.  Rookie outfielder Mitch McCosh (Belle River, ON/Belle River) had two hits including a double that drove in a pair of runs for the Saints. Catcher Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) had a single that drove in a pair of runs as part of his 3-RBI game.  St. Clair benefited from ten free passes in the contest while Saints starting pitcher Sam McKinlay (Tilbury, ON) struck out six and surrendered only one earned run on two hits. 

In game two the Saints put up a single run in the first and second innings before Centennial answered with a run in the third.  But St. Clair responded with two runs in the bottom half adding singles in the fourth and fifth.  The Saints finished their scoring with two more in the sixth for an 8-1 advantage heading to the final frame.  Centennial made some noise with two runs in the seventh before St. Clair put the final outs in the book for the sweep.  Second baseman Carter Reh (Harrow, ON/Kingsville) had three hits including a pair of doubles and scored three times for the Saints.  Real was a perfect 4-for-4 with three rbi's bringing his total to six on the day and Joshua Hudvagner (Essex, ON/Essex) had two hits including a blast over the left field fence for St. Clair.  Brady Knelsen (Leamington, ON/Leamington) picked up the pitching win working into the fifth inning and spread out 6 hits that only resulted in a lone run earned run against to go with four strikeouts. 

The Saints have another exhibition game against the University of Windsor at Amherstburg's Libro Credit Union Centre diamond on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 7pm.  St. Clair will get back to their OCAA schedule with a home weekend of games at Mic Mac Park on Cullen Field beginning on Saturday against Durham College (Oshawa) in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1pm.  The Saints finish the homestand on Sunday with a doubleheader starting 12pm against Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie).
