ETOBICOKE, ON:  Qualifying for the 2015 OCAA men's soccer championship in their inaugural season, the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles were faced with the tough task of playing against the defending provincial champions, the Algonquin Thunder.

With both teams trying to adapt to the swirling winds, maintaining possession was the opening theme to the game.  Algonquin had a scoring chance in the eighth minute when 2015 OCAA rookie of the year Marco Natoli had his shot stopped by UTM goalkeeper Jacob Monaco.

Four minutes later, the Thunder took a corner kick and OCAA all-star Alex Asmis' header just missed over the cross bar.

The defending champions continued to keep pressure on the Eagles, dominating time of possession in the first half.  Algonquin potentially had their best scoring chance in the 28th minute, when Natoli found himself with a breakaway against Monaco.  Natoli went low however Monaco played the shot to perfection, making the save and gobbling up the rebound.

As darkness began to swarm the stadium in the second half, the game continued at the same pace as in the first.  Algonquin continued to dominate the time of possession but UTM's defence foiled each and every Thunder attack.

Algonquin's constant pressure finally paid off in the 71st minute.  On a corner reminiscent of one in the first, Natoli's corner kick curled beautifully towards Alex Amis, who this time capitalized on the opportunity and buried the header.

The Thunder did not fall back with the lead, and pushed across their second goal of the game in injury time, a marker by Lucas Blain.

Algonquin will now play tomorrow in the championship semi-finals at 6:00 pm against the winner of the Cambrian/Sheridan match.  UTM - Mississauga will head to the consolation semi-finals tomorrow at 12:30 pm to play the loser of the Cambrian/Sheridan match.

Gio McDonald (Algonquin) and Kieran Spring (UTM) were each named players of the game.
