ETOBICOKE – On a breezy fall Saturday afternoon, Humber Softball (21-7, 3rd OCAA) captured the provincial bronze medal after falling to the St. Clair Saints (24-3, 2nd OCAA) at Connorvale Park.

Game Recap

The Hawks were ready to have a tough match against the national champions. In the bottom of the second, Julia Brusseau stepped into the box and homered past the fence to get the first run of the game. Softball would leave the inning down 1-0.

In the following frame, Sierra Baltzer would follow the steps of her teammate and also smash a home run to drive Shae-Lyn Murphy home safely. Zoe Scougall would come in relief and Amelia Russo would slam the door shut to stop the Saints' run parade. Humber was down 3-0.

The Hawks' offence, though, was struggling to find solutions to rise ball pitches from Bryanna Kressler that had 7 K's in the first four innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Saints would add another run to the board after a sloppy play by Humber defence, which was not in its best form. Amy Claydon stayed hot and crushed past the fence to drive two other players home. With Mikaela Moore coming in relief, the Hawks would go to the fifth to fight against the mercy rule and stay alive in the game, 7-0.

Humber Softball battled hard until the end, but the Saints would add four more numbers to the board to wrap up the match.

The Hawks ended the season capturing both the national and provincial bronze medals, the first time in the program's history that Softball captured two medals in a single season.

Michaela Tuck and Alexis Ferreira were named to the all-tournament team.
