The Falcons Sweep the Sting

(London, ON) – The Fanshawe Softball team (11-13) improved their record against the Seneca Sting (7-17) winning 8-4 and 9-8 during the doubleheader at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

In the bottom of the second in game one, Paige Askew (London, ON) started Fanshawe off with a hit that scored her teammates Hannah Lawler (Cambridge, ON) and Kamryn Lamond (Tavistock, ON). After a Birds 2-0 lead, the visitors answered, scoring two runs to tie the game up. Starting in the third inning, it was all Fanshawe. Marandee Hunter (Chatham, ON) scored off a Lawler hit. Ashtyn Wedow (Mitchell, ON) and Jada Doxtator (Southwold, ON) both picked up RBI's. Hunter and Lauryn Baechler (Shakespeare, ON) would also go on to score for the Falcons to take game one 8-4.

Game two began with the Sting gaining a two-point advantage. The Falcons bounced back, scoring a combined four runs in the second and third innings. The match would continue to go back and forth as the visitors would tie things up in the fifth. Catcher Kailyn Cook (Ingersoll, ON) went on to score her third run of the game and the Birds went up 4-8 after the sixth. In the seventh inning, the Sting went on a four-score run. With the game tied up at 8-8 after the seventh, the game went to extra innings. During the bottom of the eighth, Cook would cross home for the fourth time to secure the Fanshawe's 9-8 victory.

The Falcons will travel to the OCAA Championship this Thursday hosted by Humber College. Fanshawe (11-13, 4th) will face Mohawk (10-14, 5th) at 6:00 p.m. at Connorvale Park in Toronto.
