Men’s Basketball Shut Down Conestoga

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team played well down the stretch in a 94-70 win over Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.  The Saints are now 2-1 in the West Division standings and currently sit at #8 in the OCAA's most recent ranking.

Conestoga was ready out of the gate but the Saints quickly made amends to take a 24-13 lead entering the second quarter.  Conestoga then outscored St. Clair 26-17 in the second quarter and only trailed 41-39 at the halftime intermission.  In the second half the Saints fell behind 45-43 early but used an 18-2 run to seize back control.  With a 65-55 entering the fourth quarter St. Clair allowed Conestoga to get within 5 points (68-63) before scoring 11 unanswered as part of a 19-2 run that put the game out of reach.  The Saints converted 50% from the field and held Conestoga to 40% shooting in the game.

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) shrugged off a slow start to score 21 of his game high 24 points in the second half to lead St. Clair in the win adding 6 assists.  Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) was almost as impressive scoring 23 points to go with 5 rebounds for the Saints.

Brandon Simon (Scarborough, ON) scored 18 points for Conestoga in the loss.

The St. Clair Men's Basketball team continue their regular season schedule on the road Tuesday at Fanshawe College (London) at 8:00pm.
