The No. 6-ranked Mountaineers women's volleyball defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield in three straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) for their fourth win in a row.

The way the Mohawk team has come together over the last stretch has made head coach Matthew Schnarr proud.

"They're a special group of athletes who deserve everything that's happening for them," Schnarr said. "They're the definition of what a team is supposed to be."

While Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, ON) and Kaelyn Emslie (St. Catharines, ON) led the way for the Mountaineers with a combined 21 kills, Schnarr said the entire team is the reason for the win.

"Everything that we've been doing this year has been a complete team effort," Schnarr said. "We don't rely on one person. We focus on being the best versions of ourselves every game and we do that, which has made us a tough team."

The Mountaineers have one home game left of the regular season and will be celebrating their graduating athletes ahead of the match. Amanda Kuiper, Grace Mazur, Kaelyn Emslie and Julia Watson will all be playing their last regular season game on Sunday.

"Tomorrow is all about celebrating our four seniors," Schnarr said. "These girls have a special place in my heart so we'll be playing for them."

The Mountaineers host the Boréal Vipères on Mar. 6 at 1 p.m. inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.
