Lions Step into Playoff Spot With Win

SARNIA, ON: The Lambton Lions played great defence in pulling out a 65-46 win over the Redeemer Royals this afternoon.

The team took over control of a playoff spot in the OCAA West and took a one point lead in the point spread over Redeemer who they are tied with in victories.

Riley Williams led the Lions with 16 points, with Melissa Ellis scoring 13 and grabbing seven rebounds. Paige Johnston (pictured) scored 12 and Yasmine Taylor 11, with Christine Fleischer making an impart in her return to Lambton with six points and 12 boards. Scoring was rounded out by Lauren Van Leerzem with 3, Madisyn Campbell 2 and Jilleen Van Leerzem 2.

"Today's game was an important stepping stone for the program," says Coach Elsley. "We had a good week of practice and the women are learning our system of play. We were able to use a variety of contributions from players on the defensive end."

Coach Concisom mentioned more of them same. "Redeemer averaged 70 points a game and we held them to 46," he stated. "The type of effort will keep us in any game."

The Lions will travel to Toronto this weekend to take on Sheridan and Humber. They return home to host Mohawk on February 13th at 1pm.
