ETOBICOKE – No. 3 Humber women's volleyball (5-0, 1st West) cruised past the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-2, 3rd West) Wednesday evening at the Humber North Campus Gymnasium in straight sets (25-12, 25-21, 26-24). Left side Erika Dodd led the Hawks offensively with a game-high 15 kills, while second-year Reese Cholette was lights-out defensively, grabbing 12 digs.

Match Recap

Looking to gain momentum to boost the Hawks' confidence, Humber would come out of the gate hot, stunning the Mountaineers with an early 13-5 lead and forcing Mohawk to call a time-out. The Hawks, though, stayed in the driver's seat and stepped on the gas, returning with a 6-3 run to set a commanding 19-8 lead. The Mountaineers could not find a solution to stop Humber's offence, as the Hawks would cruise to a 25-12 set victory.

Mohawk knew they had to fight to stay alive in this game, jumping out to an early lead in the second set. Surprisingly, the Hawks struggled to build up their game and would see the Mountaineers jump ahead in the lead. Erika Dodd would come up clutch, leading Humber's offence with two massive kills to tie the match up. Mohawk saw the set slipping through their fingers while the Hawks went on to a 25-21 set win.

The third set saw a back-and-fourth clash between the two teams. The set was intense, with both sides trading point after point as no team could get a comfortable lead. The Mountaineers found their game halfway through the set - a mere three points away from closing it out - 22-20. Head coach Chris Wilkins would call a time-out to put Humber back on track. The Hawks' Nest was roaring to excite the defending provincial champions, and that seemed to have fed off Humber. The Hawks would step closer to the victory by jumping ahead 25-24. To no one's surprise, Erika Dodd would wrap up the match after tooling a double block to drive the ball off the court.

Rookie Caitlyn Labelle was named the Hawks' player of the game.
