Baseball Drops to 2nd Place with Split at Durham

Oshawa, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team surrendered 1st Place in the OCAA standings for the first time in five years with a doubleheader split at Durham College in Oshawa Sunday. St. Clair lost 2-1 in the opening game but rebounded for an 11-1 mercy shortened victory in the second game.

In the opener Saints pitcher Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River) went unrewarded for his 6 innings of work as he gave up 2 runs on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out a pair of batters. St. Clair shortstop Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) became the OCAA's all-time hit leader in the contest as part of his 2-hit day which included a double while scoring his team's lone run. St. Clair held a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning but Durham put up a pair in the 4th to end the scoring.

St. Clair enacted quick vengeance in the second game putting up 11 hits worth of run support for starter Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's) who threw 6 innings while giving up only a single run on 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2 batters. Roberto Duncan (Panama City, Panama), Tyler Lansley (Newmarket, ON) and Kyle Gagnon (Belle River, ON/St. Anne) each had 2 hits in the game. Lansley had 3 RBI's in a breakout performance for the rookie infielder. The Saints were ahead 7-1 going into the 6th inning and scored 4 runs to force the mercy verdict.

The Saints are 8-4 and in 2nd place behind 1st place Humber (9-3) by a game in the standings. St. Clair can make up some ground before yielding their first OCAA regular season crown as all of their 8 remaining games on their schedule will be against 0.500 or worse winning percentage teams.

St. Clair has an exhibition game at Macomb CC in Warren, MI on Wednesday before resuming their league schedule next weekend hosting Seneca College (North York) on Saturday and then finish the home stand with George Brown College (Toronto) on Sunday.
