Men's Soccer Fall to Conestoga

Men's Soccer Fall to Conestoga

Windsor, ON (Sept 24, 2022) The St. Clair men's soccer team took on the Conestoga Condors from Kitchener on Saturday afternoon at Acumen Stadium at the Sportspark and suffered a tough 3-1 loss.

Unfortunately early in the game the Saints lost starting midfielder and captain Joao Pavia Santos (Brazil) to a major ankle injury for the game and season when he fell awkwardly after being challenged by a Conestoga player. The injury took all the energy out of the crowd and St. Clair team as an ambulance had to be called and the game was delayed for a lengthy period.

However, St. Clair managed to take the lead on a nice strike from distance by Alex Artico (Windsor; FJ Brennan) in the 24th minute assisted by Riley Drkulec (Belle River; St. Anne's).

The Saints controlled most of the play for the first half but could not find another goal. St. Clair had 6 shot attempts compared to 2 for the Condors.

Conestoga had a better second half and took control of the game scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes. The Condors tied it up in the 58th minute after a mistake by the St. Clair keeper.  Conestoga took the lead 2-1 in the 65th minute on a great strike from distance. The Condors then went up 3-1 in the 68th minute after a nice pass and finish in close.

The Condors are now 4-0-1 and are ranked 5th in Ontario while the Saints dropped to 2-2 and are ranked 9th in Ontario.
