Men’s Baseball Take One from Fanshawe before Rain Halts Sweep

London, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team got a come from behind 10-8 win over Fanshawe College at London's Norm Aldridge Field Saturday afternoon and then led 16-0 in the 5th inning before rain halted the finish of a doubleheader sweep.  The completion of the second game will be rescheduled to a later date as the Saints remain at the top of the OCAA standings with a 13-1 record while sporting a 7-game win streak. 

The teams traded a pair of runs in the first inning of the opening game and St. Clair moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the second.  Fanshawe reeled off four runs in the bottom half of the frame, but the Saints answered quickly with a 5-run third inning.  Fanshawe tied it up at 8-8 with two runs in the fourth inning before St. Clair completed the scoring with 2-run fifth.  Zachary Hartman (Barrie, ON) worked two innings of relief to pick up his first pitching victory of the season for the Saints with Brock Whitson (Chatham, ON) earning his second save of the season after throwing three scoreless innings down stretch that included three strikeouts.  After starting the game on the mound Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) continued as the designated hitter and led St. Clair offensively with a pair of hits including a double that was part of his three RBI performance.  Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) and Hunter Appleyard (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) each chipped in with a pair of singles for the Saints. 

Before the rains stopped game two in the top of the fifth inning St. Clair had already scored 16 runs on 13 hits including a 9-run third and were led by Josh Anderson (Ajax, ON) who was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Real who also a perfect at 4-for-4 with one RBI. Brady Knelsen (Leamington, ON) had only given up a single hit through four innings and was poised for the pitching victory.

The Saints will next be in action Thursday night against Lambton College (Sarnia) in their rained out rescheduled games which is also being played at Mic Mac Park's Cullen Stadium with the doubleheader starting at 5:00pm.  St. Clair will also be recognizing their graduating players in a brief ceremony at 4:45pm prior to the opening game.
