MCJ celebrating an and-one Play Video

Historic night for MCJ in win over St. Lawrence

ETOBICOKE — No. 4 Humber women's basketball concluded their 2022 home schedule with a win, defeating the St. Lawrence Surge (1-3, 6th East) Saturday afternoon at the North Campus Gym, 94-64.

The story on the afternoon was the play of Miea Campbell-Johnson, who put together one of the best performances in program history, recording the first-ever 40-30 game. MCJ finished with 40 points, 34 rebounds, nine blocks, four assists and four steals in the win.

Both Kia Watt and Brittney English followed up their 30-point games with solid performances. English finished with her third career double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Watt finished with 23 points, nine assists, six steals, and five rebounds.

Humber was shorthanded for the second straight game and once again asked its star trio to carry the load. Miea Campbell-Johnson was dominant for the Hawks early on leading all scorers with 18 points while grabbing 20 rebounds in the first half. It was Humber's defence that really carried them in the first half, as the Surge shot just 11-of-42 (26.2 per cent) from the floor as Humber took a nine-point lead into the break.

The second half was all Humber as they put up a game-high 30 points in the third quarter as the lead ballooned up to 25 points heading into the final quarter. The Hawks would coast through the final 10 minutes, picking up their sixth win on the season in dominant fashion, 94-64.

Miea Campbell-Johnson is now averaging 25.2 points on the season, putting her on pace to establish a new Humber program record. Iona Dawes holds the current record as she averaged 25.0 points during the 1989-90 season.
