Lady Lions Fall Just Short of 1st Victory

@ Fanshawe Falcons

Lambton traveled to London on Wednesday hoping to stall the high powered offence that is the Fanshawe Falcons. The Lady Lions were overmatched from the start, with the Falcons jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. The coaching staff knew it was a tall task facing Fanshawe, but came away extremely pleased with the effort put forth by their squad. Captain Chelsea Wagner was tasked with slowing All-Canadian Striker and league-leading scorer Jade Kovacevic, and did a fantastic job. Ultimately the Lady Lions fell 7-0, dropping their overall record to 0-3-1.

vs Mohawk

Back on their home soil and looking for revenge after their season-opening loss to the Lady Mountaineersm the Lady Lions came out strong on Saturday afternoon. The team was firing on all cylinders early on, taking the 1-0 lead thanks to some great teamwork getting the ball down the field. The ball found its way onto the feet of Wagner who chipped it over the keepers head from 20 yards to put the Lady Lions up. After the teams traded chances, Mohawk took advantage of some mental mistakes by potting two goals in quick succession to take the lead.

The first half ended with a tremendous diving save by the Lady Mountaineer keeper. Rookie Kristen Faragher beat a defender going down the wing, crossed into the box and fired a shot that was targeted for the mesh. Unforutnately for her the Mohawk keeper had other plans as she went horizontal, keeping the score 2-1 going into the break.

The second half was an intense battle, with the teams trading scoring opportunities for nearly the entire 45 minutes. Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, their efforts weren't rewarded as they couldn't solve the Mohawk keeper. With the 2-1 loss, Lambton falls to 0-4-1 for the season.
