Women's Softball Stopped in Oshawa

Oshawa, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team had their unbeaten streak stopped at 43 games Saturday afternoon after falling twice in Oshawa to Durham College by scores of 2-1 and 6-4.  The Saints are now tied with Durham atop the OCAA standings sharing identical 16-2 records.

After spotting Durham a run in the third inning St. Clair's Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) tied the game up with a solo homerun in the fourth.  Durham scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and stranded the tying run at first in the seventh to end the game.  Baltzer, Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names), Bryanna Kressler and Jacklyn Yewchyn (Windsor, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) each had a hit in the contest.  Kressler took the loss on the pitching strip after allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks over six innings but struck out five Durham batters.

The Saints had control of game two with a 4-1 lead after the fourth inning but a 5-run sixth by Durham turned the tables.  St. Clair again had the tying runs aboard in the seventh inning but could not find the key hit.  Baltzer and Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Saints offensively.  Saints' starter Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre) suffered her first loss of the season giving up six earned runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings of work.

St. Clair heads to North York on Sunday to face Seneca College with a doubleheader starting at 12pm on their campus field.
